Default OS disk

Is there anyway i can solve this problem without an o/s disk. If so, how. If not where can i get a free download to copy onto a floppy, or preferably, a blank CD. Here is the problem

Now i dont knopw if this has anything to do with windows 95 because i am not a coputer whiz, but can someone please help me with this issue in something that a begginer to computers can do thanx.

I have a packard bell windows 95 computer. I used the recovery diskette and restared the computer. Then, when i restarted it, it showed starting MS-DOS... and then a space and then it shows C:\>. IT never did this until i used the diskette. What is wrong. Can anybody tell me how to fix this in a fairly easy way to understand. Thanx

At the DOS prompt type WIN and hit enter. If Windows 95 is still on your computer this should start it..
If it starts the "disk" altered your autoexec.bat or MSDOS.SYS and you will need to edit one of them to auot start Windows 95.

The MSDOS.SYS file may have been changed;
BootGUI=0
The 0 (zreo) prevents Windows 95 from starting automatically;

The last line in the Autoexec.bat file is always the following line
c:\<windows>\win.com /wx

"I used the recovery diskette and restared the computer"
If this "recovery disk" (floppy ?) erased your hard drive and the process now needs a Packard Bell Windows 95 recovery CD you will need to locate the Packard Bell recovery CDs. If the Packard Bell recovery CDs are in fact Companion CDs you can not do a full install with them. You will need a full version of Win 95.

Companion CDs were a consumer rip-off.

"If that doesn't work, there's one trick I did a LONG time ago with the Companion CD.
The Companion CD is a Windows 95b CD without the setup.exe file. What I did was that
I used an older Windows 95 (first release) CD, ran the setup file, then replaced
that CD with the Companion CD when it wanted to run Scandisk. Worked like a charm "
