Exclamation DRIVER NEEDED: Gateway 500se (Windows XP Professional)

Hello,

I just reformatted an old Gateway 500SE with Windows XP for a friend. I have successfully located working drivers for network and graphics (although gateway doesn't list them), bhowever I cannot find the driver for the audio onboard device, nor can I identify it.

Gateway says the only driver they have is for Windows ME. I'm not going that route.

Does anyone else know how I can make this work?

Intel 82801DB board, I believe.

Thanks!

Intel 82801db is not a board, it's a chipset on the motherboard... but, it isn't a sound chip. Sound chips bear names like Realtek, Cmedia, ADI SoundMax, and Sigmatel.
You must tell us which sound chip your system contains before we can help. Don't use hardware id software like Everest as it will only indicate the same, ie: 82801db. Motherboards with this chip will mistakenly id the sound chip as 82801db... it will also id most other hardware on the motherboard as the same, ie: usb, video, etc. The only way to tell is to look near the left backside of the motherboard and physically eyeball the mb for the tiny sound chip and you may need to use a light and magnifying glass in order to id the number and brand of sound chip.

And there's no guarantee that a Windows XP driver even exists.
