Default Catch 22

Catch 22 - cannot get onto internet with the computer in question
without a driver.
Cannot find driver without getting on internet.
Netgear Router was supported on that computer
- but driver lost after reinstallation of XP
- recently blind in one eye and cannot read the numbers.
Any help?

If you're asking for drivers for a router, there are none. Routers do not require drivers. A router is configured using a web-browser like IE or Firefox. Please read the user manual for additional instructions.

Thanks.
But the router is properly configured. The other computer on the network
- wired ethernet - gets on fine - I'm using it now.
But the computer with the reinstalled XP cannot get on the internet
- there is no ethernet or network adapter installed - or on my original
Windows XP installation disk.

This computer here has a Realtek 8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
Can I simply transfer this over to the other computer?

So your request then is for a network adapter rather than a router? I don't see why you didn't put that in your original request!

RTL8139 is a very common network chip. Drivers can be found in our driver database and on the Realtek website.

You can transfer the drivers from one computer to the other but it would be much simpler to just download a fresh driver and install using that.

Many of us with problems do not know the language.
When I looked up network adapter originally
I was told it was an ethernet adapter or something like that.

But then it became impossible for me to find the right one.
I will try the RTK8139 - but I hope the wrong driver or
adaptor or whatever it is, doesn't make a mess - as they
sometimes say on the internet that these things interfere
with each other or something like that.
Where is the Guide - drivers for dummies?

Best and thanks again
