Re: Windows 2000 pro
the reason is quite simple. Microsoft did not include support for your sound device or your pci modem (or your pcmcia ethernet adapter) with Windows 2000 os. Nothing unusual as they cannot include support for every single hardware device. Finding non-standard os drivers (drivers for devices on machines never shipped with that os installed from Compaq) can be quite difficult as HP now owns Compaq and they have literally no support even for os's shipped with the pc. Your best bet is to use the following software:
To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware on-board a mb. as well as the actual motherboard.
Alternate Everest download link: (offers 2 sites to dl program from)
Run the program and then:
Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.
If you need additional help, please post a SUMMARY report from Everest.
Once you find/locate the correct drivers (if such drivers exist), your question marks will disappear and the devices will work normally.
