Question Sony Combo drive reads CDs, not DVDs on XP

XPsp2 with current updates recognizes my Sony DRU510a combo drive with latest firmware. The drive reads CDs, not DVDs (any DVD, rentals, packaged, etc). Using Nero info tool 4.03 (from Nero 6.6.1.5) reports NO DISK INSERTED, with any/all DVDs; similarly, Windows Explorer shows no files with DVD, yet shows files on CD.

Default Re: Sony Combo drive reads CDs, not DVDs on XP

You must have dvd decoding software like WinDVD or PowerDVD installed before the drive can read/play dvd disks. Windows provides only support that allows the drive to read a data or music disk.
