i have a lenovo thinkpad t61 type 7665 model b68
the motherbord is lenovo mfg_in
my hard druve died and i re-installed windows xp, and now have no sound device, thoug i've DL the drivers from the IBM site, there is still no sound device.
from what i can tell i need
82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller.
is this what i need? where can i get it?

You need to first go here and read (and follow) the installation instructions:

Please note that it states that you must install the UAA High Definition Audio class driver for Windows XP SP2 from Microsoft BEFORE installing the audio driver. This is a requirement for ALL HD sound cards/chips. You also need at least SP2 updates before installing this driver set.

And your sound chip is not 82801H (ICH8 Family), it's ADI SoundMAX.

Follow the installation instructions and you won't have any trouble or problem.
