Hi,

I am using Windows Me and I keep getting the message below. When I do get the message, my system hangs.

"Too many files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Quit one or more 16-bit programs or increase the value of the FILES command in your Config.sys file"

Editing the Config.sys file does not help. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Windows ME is a 32-bit operating system. You must be running some old dos applications to get that (rare, I've never heard of) error. Most likely they are being loaded from autoexec.bat and/or config.sys or possible from other files like win.ini or such.

Try renaming (if they exist) autoexec.bat to autoexec.old and config.sys to config.old, then reboot computer and see if the error message is gone.

Is this error showing up on boot up or at some other time? If not at bootup then explain what and where your at when it happens. :gabby:
