Hi - question from a non techie (apologies if this is 'basic').

I recently updgraded from Win ME to Xp, my DVD player Mat a 8585f now won't play DVD's - says I need to install a decoder. Would I not laready have this as part of Win XP? The ones that MS support seem to point me to all cost $'s - are there any freeware options I could use?

Maybe this drive is unsupported under XP - I can;t see drivers specifically for it in the manufacturers site or in the DriverGuide database.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Barrie

Microsoft did not include support in XP to play dvd disks. That support must come from DVD Decoding software like WinDVD or PowerDVD. Older versions designed for earlier Windows os's won't work in XP. While both are available in trial versions, they are limited in play time per title and total time before expiring. I'm not aware of any quality dvd decoding programs that are free. :hdspin:
