Hello all, I'm sort of a novice pc user. anyways - I purchased a mach speed p4mdpt mobo - and a 2ghz celeron cpu. The mobo has a built in realtek ac97 sound . I installed the driver and everything appears correct according to device manager. There are no muted volumes and the device is properly selected. I can hear windows start up sounds, sounds when i empty recycle bin, and when i click on items in my browser. I am using win 98 - fresh install and windows meda 7.1 also fresh. When i go to open a wav file or movie clip with media play- I and getting no sound and the following error:

Connot pla back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding. I contacted teh mobo tech help and they weren't any help - I'm looking for some answers as I am trying to get this finished for my sis by xmas - any insight is appreciated.

thanks
