I have recently upgraded to Windows XP, my son set it up but he couldn't get my second (slave?) hard drive to work. It is not recognised in Explorer. The drive is in place, and I can see "Samsung" and "SID2001A" and "KT261AT" printed on the underside.
I have tried the Samsung site and Driverguide, but there seems to be nothing. I understand it is a driver I need to get Explorer to recognise the drive. Does anyone know what I should do?

Hard drives (internal type) do not require drivers in Windows os's.
Check that both drives are connected to the primary ide ribbon cable and both have power cables connected. Boot drive should be connected at the end of the ribbon cable, 2nd drive to the extra connector.
Also check to insure that the boot drive is jumpered as Master, and problem 2nd drive as SLAVE.
Enter pc bios setup and make sure primary ide port is enabled. I prefer to set mine to AUTO...that way both drives are detected automatically during boot. :)

Jerry, keep in mind that "SOME" motherboards (usually late model Dells) require the cdroms/HD's to be set as CABLE SELECT or the system bios will NOT see them at all. setting to master/slave will not work on these systems.

I used the 'DISKGO!' program from Driverguide. It worked to get the hdd recognized but it assigned the wrong drive letters. Be wary.

Does anyone know what I should do?if you updated from another version of windows and the drive was working with them then it is probley disabled in device manager in windows XP.right click on my computer
and click properties, hardware, click on the box labeled device manager then click disk drives and see if the drive is listed there and there is a red X by it then click on the drive and got to the top of the screen and click action, enable.should pick it up when you restart.
