Help! I posted on the modem driver message board...but I've never been to this site before today and don't know if I'm posting in the right place! Can anyone help me?

I got an old gateway computer. It was partitioned into 3 small hard-drives, had WIN95 on it, and it was loaded with viruses. I repartitioned it into 1 HD (it's old so it's not large...6 GB), reformatted it, upgraded it to WIN98. So far so good. I went to try and go online and it said the modem (that it detected) has no driver. That modem it detects is:
5614Jx3(G) Internal Modem
I try to update and reinstall and it says it can't find driver. It finds the "new hardware" when I delete the modem and it searches for it...but it can't locate the software. It gives me a Code28 when i view it in Device Manager.

Before I formatted the HD, I wrote down all of the hardware devices it had listed and this is what was listed for the modem:
Accelerator Pro 56K Int Voice Modem

I looked on the driver list and found both of these on there. So I downloaded to a disk from this computer, downloaded onto c-drive on that computer, had it look on c: for the software....and it still can't "find" it. I also had it look on the floppy since I downloaded from this site onto floppy...but that didn't work either!!

Help! What am I doing wrong? Or what am I not doing? I'm getting frustrated and confused. I appreciate any help I can get with this! Thanks!

I did actually sign up and become a member here today...but I'm not signed in now. I just noticed my post says I'm a "guest" and that's probably why. Just fyi!

Ok, we'll pretend you overlooked our forum rules. Just so you know....

1: No double posting in this SUPPORT FORUM or the DRIVER REQUEST FORUM.

2: This SUPPORT FORUM does not allow driver requests..that's why we have a driver request forum.

3: Rather than creating a new thread, click the edit button on your previous post and add your comments. This keeps all your information in a single post and not scattered all over the forum.

Note: Your modem driver request (in the DRIVER REQUEST FORUM) has been personally answered by me earlier today. In the future please post a single request for drivers in the DRIVER REQUEST FORUM and then check the post occasionally for comments/answers left there...
