I have been encountering a problem while in the MSDOS Prompt when typing C:\winipcfg this command usually opens my IP configuration for my win98se system. But I keep receiving an error code 6 and states there is a missing file .dll

Is there a way to reconfigure winsock and or reinstall it?

Any help would be appreciated, without this file i cannot connect this machine to the internet.

Thanks,

Bmfmow

Unable to initialize Windows Sockets interface, error code 6.
You may come across this error when you use the Ping.exe tool included with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, XP

Try replacing icmp.dll from the cab files. If that has no effect then the Wsock32.dll file may have been damaged or have been replaced by a third-party program.

Use the Extract tool to extract a new copy of the Wsock32.dll file from your original Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, XP disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder.

Thank you very much. I will give that a whirl and see what I get.

p.s thanks for the quick response also, I have been pulling my hair out with this problem for 2 days. I was just sitting here at work thinking why don't I just boot from the OS disk and repair the problem, duh!!!! :)
