i recently got an old computer with Piii 550 processor and Asus P3BF M/B. i got trouble installing the ethernet card (Dlink 10/100) in Windows 98. when i checked in the device manager, it said that the ethernet card is working properly, but i couldn't access the network. i suspect this is because there is an unknown device with name "pci input controller" with properties "the drivers for this device are not installed". i've tried to update the bios with the newest one from this website, but the computer always freezed in the middle of the process.

as for the network settings, i've applied the same settings for the other computers in the network (with different M/B) and they worked perfectly.

any suggestion/advice?
thanks...

Are you getting a link light on the NIC? I can't tell you how many times i have walk in and IS guy says the same thing. 98% of the time it is a bad line cord.
