Thank you for your interest in my previous thread Jerry, but I believe you misread my question. My computer rejects all drivers, saying I do not have any sound hardware. I want to know how I get my packard bell to recognise my sound hardware on windows 98 SE. I know how to download a driver, and I know which one to download, and am not asking about drivers. Perhaps you should read a question (or even the subject), before you close a thread. This is a hardware support forum, is it not?
Thank you to anyone else who can help me

Ok, so you have a Packard Bell PC and an unknown sound chipset. If you know how to download a driver (what driver) and which one (filename) to download then you should also know that a driver must be installed after downloading. It also must be the correct driver and installed according to the manufacturers instructions. You really expect someone to tell you what your doing wrong or how to correct it when you haven't stated what driver, where you got it, what sound chipset your pc has, method used to install, specific errors that occured (if any), bios settings, whether your sound is built into the motherboard or add-in?
I would like to remind you again that Driver related posts should be posted in the DRIVER REQUEST FORUM. You have a driver related issue so it doesn't belong in this SUPPORT SECTION. When posting in this SUPPORT FORUM, posts relating to drivers will be closed or deleted if we consider it driver related.
OTHER HARDWARE (catagory) doesn't fit SOUND CARDS as well as the AUDIO & MULTIMEDIA... and driver related requests do not belong in any section of this SUPPORT FORUM. It WAS NOT designed for driver requests...that's why we still have a DRIVER REQUEST FORUM.
To make my point check the DRIVER REQUEST FORUM (any section). There you must select from a menu in order to make a post. Such as:
Driver Request or Help Request
Manufacture: (brand for hardware)
Model: (model # of hardware)
Operating System
Fcc Id #
Then a box is provided for comments.
Again this SUPPORT SECTION is not designed for posts such as yours.
There is a note on the main page that states:
"If you have a non driver related isssue, please visit our new SUPPORT FORUM."
Does anyone understand simple ENGLISH anymore?
Since you feel I closed your previous thread prematurely, I will leave this one open for comments temporarily.
:)
