I am trying to reformat a HDD and installing XP Pro. During installation, I am running into a blue screen error message saying "The problem seems to be caused by the following file: emu10k1m.sys"

I have tried to reboot and reinstalled again, still will the same error message. I even replaced a brand new HDD, still running into the same issue.

Anyone knows how to fix it and what is this error message means?

Do you have a Sound Blaster sound device? emu10k1m.sys is associated with Creative Labs sound cards. You may need an updated driver.

Is your XP disk scratched?

If that's a PCI audio card, remove it and start installation.

Also check Windows XP CD for any scratches / damages.
