hey i have a windows ME related problem i thinki got a dvd burner and tried to install it in what should have been the usb mass storage device not to be confusing i think its like a usb socket i guess it must be but the NTKERN.VXD device loader (s) for this device could not load the device drivers (s) code 2 came up under the device manger and then usb mass storage device after that so basically i need ntkern.vxd but where do i put it i downloaded it from this site and it halted my computer so i got rid of it but what happened was probably a conflict between the ntkern.vxd and the windrvr.vxd that i already have do i need to install ntkern.vxd and then get rid of windrvr.vxd someone help please thank you

remove the following two lines of code in the C:\Autoexec.bat file by using a text editor, such as, Microsoft Windows Notepad. If your mouse does not work, you may want to use Notepad from one of the Windows installations that works properly. SET windir=C:\WINDOWS
SET winbootdir=C:\WINDOWS

After you make this change, save the Autoexec.bat file, and then restart your computer.
MORE INFORMATION
Both the WinDir and WinBootDir variables are reset in memory to the correct location while Windows is starting, but these variable are not reset fast enough to discover some of the hardware.

I'm currently having that same problem, and I found that advice elsewhere. However, I tried removing those 2 lines, and rebooting.. but my burner still isn't working. It's not even being recognized by the compture as another drive any more. I'm getting really frustrated, and have no clue what to do. :/

What condition is the usb ports as reported by Device Manager? They must be working for the usb drive to be seen by the OS.
