I have problem with getting sound out of my computer at all. I have a sound card which is installed and seems ok. The sound card is a AD LIB GOLD COMPATIBLE (OPL3). I looked in my device manager and theres a problem with the AD-CHIP Audio adapter, it says theres no driver installed so i tried reinstalling it through ACCWIZ but it says it cant find the driver, so i went to driver to try to update driver. It said there were no files loaded for the device driver. So i found the driver which is a AD-CHIP AD1816 (.inf) FCCID=AD1816, and i downloaded it. I right clicked the file and it said INSTALL so i clicked that and it did'nt do anything, so i clicked OPEN WITH, but then its asking what i want to open it with. I try ACCWIZ but i didnt work. Everytime after i tryed it just kept coming up ACCWIZ CANNOT DO THIS, just when i was clicking the OPEN WITH. For some reason later it let me go back to the list of what i want to open it with, but i have'nt got a clue what to do to install the files. I tried going back to device manager and doing the process again of reinstalling driver & update driver but it still says it can't find them. But i know there in my files & folders. What do i do now?? i'm stuck.
I also joined DRIVER HEADQUARTERS which scanned my computer and told me what drivers i need, I downloaded them but the same as the other i don't have a clue how to install files to make the driver work. pls pls help me..

Your post was moved to this forum because it was not related to STORAGE DEVICES (where you posted it). This is a sound card problem and SOUND CARD posts belong in the "Audio & Multimedia" forum.

please state what driver file (filename) and where (specific url) you got it. Basically your request reads like this:
I have downloaded an unknown file from some unknown website, and I have installed it in some unknown way and have unknown problems.

Please be specific with information so specific directions can be given.

And please do not create multiple thread in this forum. You can add/edit your previous posts. However, since you chose to create a new thread, your previous thread was deleted.

KELLYVILLE: The driver file name is :-AD-CHIP, AD1816 English(.inf) FCCID=AD1816 for os WINDOWS98SE. I found the driver info on SOUNDCARD-DRIVER.COM and got the driver from here DRIVERGUIDE.COM. All i have done is saved it to my files & folders.
The problem i have is no sound at all from my computer, I do have a sound card which is a AD LIB GOLD COMPATIBLE (OPL3). I have checked this and with a computer tech on the phone and it seemed fine. All working correctly. The reason i downloaded the driver above is because in my computer properties i went to device manager and the AD-CHIP Audioo adapter had a big yellow question mark by it. I clicked on to it's properties and thats where it was telling me the driver for this device was not there.. :)) pls help i am a bit of a fool when it comes to these things.. thank you

Saving a file to "files & folders" (what ever that is) will not make your sound card work. You must install the driver. Use ADD NEW HARDWARE in Control Panel, select "No, I want to select the hardware from a list", select "Sound, Video and Game Controllers", click "HAVE DISK", point to the folder where you saved the inf file, then follow on-screen prompts til finished.

You should delete all sound related drivers first before installing the driver. :)

I did that. I did get further, it told me to pick out of three options. One was mine but when I clicked that it told me that it was not suitable. I tried the others which said the same. I don't want to continue with it unless I know I'm not going to mess anything up. It would let me continue but it had advised not to. I'm so sorry to be a pain. If u could still help I would be very grateful.. Thank You
How do I delete other drivers?
I am a starter at computers that's why I sound so fool... :))
Pls bear with me....

Ok, there's a few things you must do first.

1: Determine first if your sound is on-board or plug-in.
2: Identify the sound card or chipset.
3: If on-board then you must identify the motherboard brand and model.
4: If you are not able to id the sound chipset, then write down the bios id string that appears in the lower left corner of your screen during bootup. Use the pause/break key to freeze the screen long enogh to write down the bios string.
5: Do a search on the bios id string to find out who made your motherboard.
6: Visit the manufacturer's website to obtain the correct driver.

We cannot help you any further until you provide the necessary information.

I went to the manufacturer's website AD-LIB MULTIMEDIA, But i'm being told its out of buisness. I've tried looking through other links but still can't find nothing. When i start my computor i paused it as it started and seen no BIOS number, or any number or writing in the bottom left hand side of the screen, I redone this a number of times but still no luck.
The info for my AD-LIB sound CARD which is on board are in my previous posts. :)

Hello !

I read all the answers and your information and i think that you need to find out about your motherboard ( main board) name and chipset used in this. then you go to website of this motherboard maker to download the driver for this motherboard and then install this driver to your system choosing multimedia , sound and type of chipset and it must be OK.

good luck !

It would be my opinion that you go to the closest Best Buy or any PC repair store and purchase a new Sound Card. They are inexpensive and it will come with its own drivers and it sure beats all the trouble you are going to in order to find a driver for a card that is no longer made.
After you get the new sound card and pitch your other one in the trash, uninstall all other drivers and sound hardware from your system.
Remember the "yellow" !? Hightlight it and look to the top of the screen where you see a computer icon with an x through it, click on that x.
Now shut everything down and install your new sound card and install the drivers from the CD.
Hope it helps,
Clint

The analog devices "AD1816" chips is known as a SOUNDPORT series chip and only has driver support for w9x (and ME using w98 driver) NT4. no other later ms operating systems are supported. (this means w2k/XP)

this driver is only for w95/98

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/15/15410.htm

there are HACKED driver files, but i have not tested them myself, so i can not comment on them other than to say this one looks compleat.

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=49235

the ad1816 "emulates" a ad-Liib card, it is not one itself!! understand?

do not try to use ad-lib drivers on a Analog soundport chip...IT WILL NOT WORK!!!
