This started out that the cd rom was not reading the cd s. Now the screen is black and white. The CD Rom is working but not reading CD's and I don't know what happened to get me into the black and white world, Help, please!

You mentioned that your Cd-Rom is working but it is not reading the CD's. How you conclude the Cd-Rom is working? You should check your Cd-Rom on other machine then only you can arrived to the conclusion that either your Cd-Rom is giving problem or trouble is somewhere else may be with operating system or memory.
