This is my first ever post, so please don’t be too harsh :)

I have just had to rebuild my PC, I have loaded Windows 98Se and I am having real problems getting my modem to work.

The modem is a Rockwell RCVDL56ACFW/SP and I managed to download the drivers from driverguide. The modem has been detected and everything seems to work until I get to the point where I am dialling. I then get the error message – No Dial Tone. I have tried 3 different modem cables (which work with another computer), I have removed it (and the drivers) and the computer detects and re-installs it on reboot. From Control panel I have done the \Diagnostics\more info, the details are listed. Don’t know what else to try, please help. I am sure that the drivers are fine because I have downloaded them from Rockwell and they match the set on the download site here.

No dial tone usually means just that---Do you use BT answer 1571, if there is a message waiting for you the interupted dial tone will stop you-- unless you uncheck the 'wait for dial tone before dialling' box or collect all messages before you connect!
