Hi,
I've installed modem driver (NetoDragon 56k) on Win98SE computer. During the driver installation I was asked for Win98 CD-ROM, but since I didn't have any at hand I skipped this step and returned later with Win98SE CD. But when I reinstalled the driver I was not asked for Win98 CD again and the modem does not work (but it appears as functioning in the device manager).
Is there any way I can force windows to ask me for Win98 CD again (during the re-installation process)?
Regards,
Peter

Try restarting your pc in Safe Mode and open up Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and if any Netdragon s/w is listed there try uninstalling it then go into Device Mgr and remove the Modem icon, click OK. If you have MS' Regclean on your pc you could try running it to clear out any modem related registry entries but if you don't that's ok. Then restart your pc in normal mode and you should be able to reinstall hopefully w/ no problems. A good tip to avoid having to always dig out the Win98 CD is to create a folder, call it W98 or whatever, on your harddrive and copy the contents of the Win98 folder on your Windows 98 Second Edition CD to that folder. Hard drives are big enough nowadays that it won't use up that much space and saves time installing 3rd party s/w.

Thanks Mike, I'll try that.
I should probably also note that I've changed the PCI slot where the modem is installed to force windows to completely reinstall modem driver and it worked, but only for the driver, windows files were not requested again.
Then I've also tried to delete (actually rename) inf files of this modem driver that were installed into windows/info folder to force it to install the driver again but it was the same story as above.
I hope your solution will work. Thanks again.

Hi Peter: I agree with what mike said,Almost every thing IF his advice did not work and it was me. I whoud go into add remove programs, uninstall the program that is giving you all the fuss,Then i whoud go into system devices and remove the modem. When you restart windows will find the software for your modem anyway. If for some reason it decides not to do it,Simply go back into controll panel and click on Add New Hardware.Let windows search for it.Modem shoud come into view,Highlight it and click finish.Good Luck Gary....
