Hey it's good to know someone else has encountered this problem upon installing XP Professional. I can't get hooked up to the net because of this problem myself and I don't know how to fix it. All I know is that my computer is not reading my modem and I have no idea where this PCI Simple Communications Controller came from but I do know that there are no drivers installed for it. In my system information I found the device listed but the driver version, manufacturer, driver name and .INF name are "not available". So without the proper information how do you fix the problem? Is this something that I can uninstall and then reinstall my modem and driver? So I am in the same dilemna as you and if you should find the fix, can you drop me an e-mail, please? noemailaddys@allowed silkgsg 05-13-2004, 04:14 AM Wow, I see that everybody is have troubleing with this problem. I have uninstalled the modem and reinstalled it but that did not work. I have no idea of what to do. If anyone has an solution please let me know at noemailaddy@allowed. Thanks silkgsg 05-13-2004, 04:19 AM PCI simple communications device = MODEM Uninstall the modem from device manager.Reinstall drivers for PCI simple communications controller and pick have disk, point it to the modem drivers disk. When it finishes installing the drivers it will find the modem itself and install it. You will need to determine who made the modem "chip" used and obtain generic drivers if XP drivers are not available from the computer maker. http://modemsite.com/56k/index.asp Who made the modem. http://modemsite.com/56k/whomadeit.asp http://modemsite.com/56k/chipset.asp Unregistered 12-07-2004, 04:49 PM This is not a modem issue. Most PCs have three or more PCI slots. The modem may be your only PCI device so you think you have a modem problem. It is really a PCI to mother board problem. Contact the motherboard maker. Microsoft has dropped the ball in both Win XP and Win 2000 by not providing drivers for the PCI controller. You will need to get them from the motherboard maker. Look for a brand and model on the board then contact the maker. Woe is us. I also have a Mac and there could never be such a ridiculous issue on my Mac, thank God. I disconnected it and cleaned the room it lives in. Reconnected and I get this 'found new hardware' message and a request to find the driver for 'pci simple communications device'. Everything works just as it did so it appears to be non-essential but very annoying everytime I turn on the PC. I have read this is a modem issue - but the modem works fine and someone says it is not. Could it be the mother board? Maybe? Turn something off in BIOS??? Over my head...so...is there somewhere a driver to install to resolve this issue or do I need to understand better the phantom device my computer suddenly wishes to install? (running windows xp) I say phantom because I have absolutely no idea what device it is - especially since all worked well before I dusted this room. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. sunraysiapainter 01-06-2007, 11:46 PM I think I found it - nope - I didn't...still looking for an answer. yallaen 02-03-2007, 09:24 PM Hi There - now I am totally confused :hdspin: My pc was working just fine. After repeated problems with my Gateway computer, they sent me a replacement computer "refurbished". When I first got it, I had this PCI Simple Communications conflict as well. My DVD and DVD/CD-Rom drives were not showing up as well. Well, overnight, something happened, because my drives now show up...but the conflict is still showing up. I can get on the 'net via cable modem no problem. My DVD devices seem to be working, as do my memory card slots. I dont use the modem, so I may just remove it and see what happens. Oh, and Gateway tech support blows..they gave me a link to update my chipset with the driver attached, but the link doesnt work. skmods 03-01-2007, 06:00 PM I have the same problem only I cannot connect to the internet. It was running fine, I shut it down at night next morning Controller missing, no where to be found and no connection to the net. I had my internet provider here, they could get a signal and get in to my machine from the back door yet nothing is coming out. I went to the website for my motherboard, found the drivers, and cannot download them! I tried on three different occasions but the operation keeps timing out. my mother board is not that old and I really can't afford a new one right now any suggestions would help. THANX n0 nAmE 06-24-2007, 08:18 AM I also facing the same problem but without any modem install in my system. After install the Intel management Engine driver everything fix. Good luck. Cheer 1. Error on PCI Simple Communications Controller in Device Manager If the Intel® Management Engine driver has not been successfully installed, you may see an error on a "PCI Simple Communications Controller" in Device Manager. To resolve this issue, install the Intel® Management Engine Interface driver for your desktop board. This driver can be installed from either: The Express Installer CD that came with your board (in the Software\Driver\Advance_Fan_Speed_Control__AFSC folder) The latest driver downloaded from Intel's Download Center. masterblaster 07-02-2007, 08:01 PM Luch is correct it is probably looking for the chipset drivers and ini file for the motherboard ggod luck Sippin45 09-27-2007, 04:07 PM Any body help out just loaded windows xp pro keeps coming up with pci simpel communications controller needed any one help thanks If you are using a Dell Latitude D610 or similar, you have a TI PCMCI Card Slot with integrated Smart Card reader. The driver for the Smart Card is not being installed. This happens when clean installing WinXP or WinVista. In my case the following Dell Driver solved the problem."Vista 32 Drivers for TI PCI6515 Cardbus/Smartcard controller" http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R165177&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=222314 Hope I've helped you solve the problem... TUQAN 11-06-2007, 06:57 PM I too experienced this same PCI Simple Communications Controller call after reinstalling the OS (Windows XP Home w/ SP2) on a eMACHINE W3107. Likewise emachine does not list what apparently is a FAX MODEM driver on the support page for the W3107. In utilizing the emachine.com text Tech Chat utility it resulted with the following: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20571&dscr=PCI%20SoftV92%20Data%20Fax%20Modem%20with%20S martCP%20Modem%20DriverVersion:%207.23.00.00&uid=177045983 The driver's proper name on the gateway site is modem72300000.exe should the above link not work properly. Hope this helps. tech2 12-14-2007, 08:07 PM It can also be when you install a serial card and you haven't loaded the drivers. You'll get the same error in device manager as you would for a pci slot or some other pci devices. So, it doesn't just pertain to one device. dcox86 07-17-2008, 05:27 AM I have a different story! In an older computer with win95 op sys, I found a pci modem and could not install or identify same. Its on a card with a chip labeled Intel(with no pn or no. of any kind). There are a few numbers on the pc but I haven't been able to make sense of any of them. Have tried to ID the card by using Belarc Advisor and Driver Magic withvery inconclusive results! One source says that when windows cannot ID the card it names it "pci simple communications controller". I believe that at one time this card was successfully used as a Modem on a computer using win95. I am interested in learning more! bongsz 07-17-2008, 01:48 PM PCI simple communications device = MODEM Uninstall the modem from device manager.Reinstall drivers for PCI simple communications controller and pick have disk, point it to the modem drivers disk. When it finishes installing the drivers it will find the modem itself and install it. it worked!! wow i cant believe it will actually install itself without downloading anything nork 11-25-2008, 08:46 PM Hi There Not telling anyone what to do but here is what happened. I was repairing an older P3\celeron 1.0 gig cpu, chipset VT8604 and win xp pro legit version, lol. In the end the last thing for me to fix was this notice in dev mgr, the one being discussed here, "pci simple communications No luck finding the mobo mfgr at all, not on mobo anywhere, tried various things like everest, sisoft sandra to ID the mobo, no luck. So i went and downloaded the via hyperion set of drivers. That should take care of all \any missing chipset\mobo drivers. After doing that the notice in dev mgr was still there. So i googled. I figured that if all the mobo drivers are good, even the onboard usb and video were good, then its gotta be one of the cards in the pci bus slot. The 2 items in this pc were a nic card and a modem. I uninstalled the pci simple etc notice in dev mgr, turned the pc off, took out the modem and problem solved, the message is gone in dev mgr and all seems well. So those people pointing out that its something, perhaps a modem on the pci bus, were right. I didnt do anything except read some of this thread and some other bits of info on other web pages and there was so much talk about modems that i figured it might be that and it was. So thanks for the help guys. Thes forums are so great! All you have to do is have a bit of knowledge and access to google and it can make you look like a pro! Sometimes, that is, lol. alfonso 04-13-2009, 07:24 AM April 13 2009 / Windows XP Pro Most likely you formatted the hard disk and installed Windows XP without saving all the previous drivers of the old hard disk, so the new Windows installation cannot find some older driver. Or did you have or installed an old internal modem and therefore the new Windows installation doesn't reconize it? Proceed as following: 1) Desactivate in the bios the 2 serial ports (com1 and com2). 2) Download and install the correct driver for your modem. (You may have to open the computer and look at the internal modem board to determine who is the manufacturer). 3) Stop, then restart the computer and verify in the Device Manager if the yellow error message "PCI simple communications controller missing" has gone, if not look for an other modem driver. 4) Reactivate the 2 serial ports in the bios, save the bios and restart the computer. This method worked for me after searching for days to overcome the yellow error message after I installed a slipstreamed Windows XP Pro SP3. My main difficulties where finding the right old driver on the internet. bchacko1 05-21-2009, 07:43 AM I have DFM-560ES modem connected to my Windows XP system and i did a google search for this modem driver. Unfortunately google listed this junk site to me and i was directed to a software by name DriverDetective.exe under the following path. http://downloads.driverhq.com/DriverDetective.exe I downloaded this junk software from a internet cafe and took it to my home to install the driver. When i started running DriverDetective.exe, during the installation this software wanted another application by name dotnetfx.exe which it was trying to download from internet. http://downloads.driverhq.com/DriverDetective/prereq/dotnetfx.exe What a junk software should this and the persons who maintain this site. I'm trying to get my modem to work by installing this and it is trying to download another application dotnetfx.exe from the web site when there is no connection at all. After this i again thought i will try another software from this portal and downloaded dgt2.exe from the following path. http://ev1-2.driverguide.net/dgt2.exe Even this software turned out to be another junk. I expected this to have all the drivers including the one that i'm looking for. But this application also turned out to be a hoax having few junk drivers. I would suggest no one use this junk portal to download any software. Jerry K 05-22-2009, 04:19 AM I'vr been telling members that for nearly 10 years. It's nice to see someone who knows about the junk. When using Google or any other search engine, almost all the links, produced by the search, results in a slew of those junk sites wanting you to download their software in order to download the driver. Stay away from the junk software as there's no telling what all kind of junkware/spyware you will be installing on your pc. No software will replace the human brain.... ie: if you can't find the driver on your own, you really don't need a driver. |
