I need both Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 drivers for the Iomega I/O Magic 16x external dual-layer +/- R/RW burner, model IOM-601. I need to use it to transfer files from the Win 98SE PC, then it will stay with the W2K PC. Iomega does not list the drivers for this device and I can't find my original disks.
Support Information:
Device Type: CD / DVD
Manufacturer: Iomega
Model: IOM-601
Interface: USB
Operating System: Windows 98SE
Age of Device: < 2 years old
FCCID:
Type of drive: dvd-r/cd-rw (dvd burner, dvd reader, & cd burner combo)
Location: external
What recording software are you using?: Nero/version
Find it on DriverGuide (http://members.driverguide.com/index.php?action=srch&sm=b&aax=&qa6=513&qa5=3&qa7=1301&dp=2&qm0=IOM-601&jmd=and&fzz=d) | Find it with Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Iomega+CD+%2F+DVD++IOM-601+Windows+98SE+) | Research manufacturer Iomega (http://members.driverguide.com/index.php?action=getinfo&companyid=513)

I was unable to find such a model as "IOM-601" on the manufacturers website:

USB optical drives only require a driver when used in Windows 98SE OS. None required for Windows 2000 or XP.

That's correct. It is not on their website, I tried there first. I wrote that in my first post. And I do need the driver for a Windows 98SE PC - I mentioned that, too.
So...can anyone help me?

The only way I can help you is for you to identify the chipset in the USB enclosure. Are you able to remove the cover and note the chip number?

I made a previous request but I was mistaken. This is by I/O Magic, not Iomega. This is a portable DVD player and I need the Windows 98 and 2000 drivers for it (mostly 98). Thank you.

DO NOT create extra threads.... it's not allowed here. Keep all your posts in the same thread. This optical drive only requires a driver when used in Windows 98... in Windows 2000 it's plug and play when plugged into a working usb port.
Check the manufacturers website for driver availability. If they don't have it then again, the only way we can help is if you identify the chipset inside the usb enclosure.

Problem solved - I dug through everything I had and I found it. I found a lot of other old drivers, too. I'll have to see if anyone needs them.

Jerry K. I am very sorry. I am handicapped with brain lesions and I have little short term memory and difficulty reasoning, among many other things. I try to write everything down, but I make a lot of mistakes. But it is better than sitting and doing nothing. Unfortunately, it inconveniences people as I see I have done to you here. I had written down that I posted here for this driver. And I know better than to create a new post when I was just adding information. But it did not even occur to me when I did it, and this kind of thing happens to me all the time. I wasn't even sure this was the right place because my notes were incomplete.
I had also forgotten and had NOT written down that I was supposed to identify the chipset. I thought I had just posted once with no replies. I can show you several examples in other forums (with other problems, not this problem) where I did update my posts and did not create new posts. There's a post on the Vista site where I just keep updating, because no one has any ideas yet. Again, please accept my humble apologies.
Yes, I know that I just needed Windows 98. I do know this. It is going to end up with a Windows 2000 PC so I put that down but not thinking properly, as I have already told you.
If the manufacturer had it, I would not be seeking it here. It is not on their site and there is no response when I try to contact them.
Again, please forgive me for breaking your rules. I hope I don't have to come back for anything.

No problem, I understand. Are you able to remove the cover on the usb enclosure, note the main (largest) chipset number and repost with that info?
