There's 2 software programs that you must have installled:

1: Compatible recording software like that which Nero or Roxio makes. There's dozens others that will also work.

2: Compatible dvd decoding software like WinDVD or PowerDVD.

No driver is needed so all you need is just the software mentioned above.

Windows XP provides native burning support for cd-r disks but you will need 3rd. party recording software in order to burn cd-rw disks. ie: Nero or Roxio and there are many others that will work.
