i bought a pocket usb hard drive. installed the driver using windows 98 SE. it worked once. now i can't get the drive to show up. on the bottom right (i am not tech sophisticated at all) there is an icon that looks like a green arrow over a rectangular disk. when the cursor isover it it says Gene USB Monitor V1.1. the hard drive itself has the name KONE on it but i can't find anything anywhere under that name. i am lost. can anyone help? please email me at lrosen9999@hotmail.com
I have had the same problem. I think it was caused because I allowed Windows to find a driver, thinking it would get it from the supplied CD, however I think it found one of it's own mass storage drivers???. I am only a novice when it comes to drivers, but it appears you have to be very carefull to follow instructions PERFECTLY, so if the book says install driver FIRST then plug in device, do exactly that. Iam now not sure which driver it uses so am not game to delete and reinstall. HOWEVER, try these tricks to make it work.
1. plug in your device, wait for hourglass to stop, then click on green arrow icon and select "Safely remove mass storage" (or words to that effect), unplug it then plug it straight in again, this works with mine more often than not. If left click doesn't work, do a right click.
2. Plug in a mass storage device which works eg cd burner, remove it as described above, then plug in your problem drive. This also works with mine.
My device is a "Blueeye" brand 30gbyte mini hard drive.
I hope this helps you, my problem is the reason I checked this forum.
Ross.
PS.
If anyone can tell me how to find the driver it uses, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

This sounds like a similar problem i had with a digital camera. This turned out to be an incompatability with my current chipset driver for my mother board. I reccomend you check the readme file for known issues with certain hardware items, and download all the latest drivers for your hardware.
