PLEASE HELP!!! I have been having this problem off and on where I'm getting an error message that tells me the drivers for my cd/dvd drives are missing or corrupted (39). I have paid now twice to have someone repair the computer and frankly, cannot afford to do it again. Any help would be appreciated. I have done the "regedt32" thing, but I didn't see anything about the upper and lower filters. I have also tried the uninstall/reinstall and get the same "missing/corrupted driver code 39" message.

I have two drives.....ASUS-CD-S480/AH and LITE-ON DVD+RW SOHW-802S. I am at my wits end with this and would really like to resolve this situation (again). I cannot reach the person who "fixed" my computer before, so I am hoping to gain some knowledge from someone here on this site.

Thank you in advance for any help!!!

A bit of advice, never pay anyone to fix your computer if they don't. Make them pay you instead. Then you'd have enough money to take it to a real repair shop.

Are the drives being detected by Windows? If so, they will be listed in My "Computer". If they are not listed in "My Computer", then run the CdGone file listed in my hundreds of posts showing where the file can be downloaded from. This one:

Fix #3:
And here's another method (CdGone.zip) that will do this procedure automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.

(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)
Unzip the file, then launch it.
I highly recommend this fix to use before the others.
It's quick and requires no skill to use.
