Why canīt it com stand-alone-style from ASUS ??

A driver is only required in Windows 98SE. In Windows XP the drive is plug and play. It should install itself within 5-10 seconds after plugging it into a USB port (preferably a rear USB port.)

If the drive fails to work, check the USB ports in Device Manager to insure all ports are working. Also, test the drive on another Windows XP machine to see if the drive is actually working.
