Hi There,

I have Toshiba Laptop satellite A100 series. Model no PSAA9A-046004. It has windows xp operating system. It is around 3 years old laptop. For the first time I tried to create DVD but I couln't do it. I used WindDVDCreator2 software to create DVD.

It create video, erase disk, format dvd and then when it tries to burn it just eject the dvd out from the dvd-drive. I tried dvd of different manufacturer but I couln't succeed. I don't get any error but just eject out.

I suspect it may be because of drivers. The CD/DVD manufacture is Matshita dvd-ram uj-841s. I search on internet to find the driver for the manufacture but couldn't locate the proper one.

I have installed DriverGuide Toolkit softare from your website to scan for lastest driver. But it didn't scan for Matshita dvd-ram.

I have also downloaded various different DVD writer software from internet but none of the software could create DVD.

Could you please help me on what needs to be done so that I can create DVD.

Cheers

All burning issues are directly related to the burning software. You should try Roxio's Easy Cd/DVD Creator or Nero's Burning Rom software. If it still fails, it's time to consider buying a new drive.

Note: If you have more than ONE burning software installed, that's a no-no. Uninstall ALL burning software then reinstall ONE of your choice. If it doesn't work then uninstall it and try another.

Note: You must install burning software that's compatible with the drive AND the Windows XP os. Older burning software will not work with the newer Windows XP OS.

Has the drive ever worked properly?

Hi Jerry,

The drive has worked properly. I mean I can watch DVD, I can burn CD but can't burnt DVD(It is first time I am trying to create DVD). If it can burn CD than it should burn DVD that's why I think it may not be drive problem but could be because of driver.

I will uninstall burning software and will install Nero or Roxy CD/DVD software to see if that solve the problem.

Will update you on the outcome.

Appreciate your help

Does the drive read a data or music disk ok, it just won't burn dvd disks? I'd take a guess and say you must pull it out and install a new drive.
UJ-xxxx models are notorious for going bad. I've seen brand new UJ models stop working within the first hour their put into service.

This drive has 2 laser beams, one to handle cd type disks and a 2nd. laser lens to handle dvd disks.

I removed other burning software and then tried to burn the DVD with NERO software but it failed. It had same problem as other burning software. i.e. when it tries to burn the dvd it eject the drive.

Is it because of the driver or the drive problem? Any Help?

The drive does read data or music ok. I can also watch movie(DVD). No problem at all.
I can burn CD(data/music/mp3) but cannot burn DVD. My drive is under warranty there is inspection charge of 100$ if it's turns out it software problem and not hardware.

so before I send it for inspection. I want to confirm it is not software problem.
Only option that is left for me is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall again.
will it be any help? Where can I get the latest drivers for the drive.

You can't. All support comes from the OS and from burning software. Windows provides it's own drivers for optical drives. That support includes reading a data or music disk and burning a cd-r disk... nothing else. To burn cd-rw or dvd disks requires compatible 3rd. party recording/burning software.

Check in Device Manager and see if your USB ports are working. It's either a bad port or a bad drive. (not a driver problem)

What recording software/version are you currently using?

I am using Nero 9 burning software to burn DVD. I went in Device Manager double click on each usb ports and drive and they all working. There is no unknow port(?) sign in the device manager list. so I guess they all are working properly.

To further test I pluged devices in all USB port and they all are to be reading devices.

Is the drive listed in "My Computer" and "Device Manager"? And in Device Manager is the drive reported as working? It is listed in Device Manager isn't it?

Another thing is how did you convert an internal IDE drive into an external USB drive? In your original post, you stated this is a USB drive but all sources indicate it's an internal ide drive.

Replace the drive and your problems will end.
