Realtek drivers are generic... laptops cannot use generic drivers as they will fail installation. You must use specific drivers from the laptop maker, ie: Gateway.

What kind of failure notice are you getting? Are you logged in as administrator or have administrator rights? If not, you must.

I am logged in as the administrator. When I try installing the gateway driver, which is what I initially tried, the device driver installation wizard opens, the only device listed is the Conexant AC-Link Audio, I click OK to install, the window disappears for a few seconds then comes back saying installation complete with results that simply say "FAILURE". The only option at this point is to click ok and the wizard closes.

I just unistalled and tried to reinstall the gateway driver. This time a new window opened up, it has opened before after installing the realtek driver, walking me through the install process. Before I had just let the program use the driver it recognized as the best. This time I used the option of telling the program which to use. As a defualt it had been using the realtek drivers each time. So once I chose the gateway driver from a list everything worked and now I have sound. Thanks for your help and maybe this information can help others.
