I have a compaq 4545 which was working great. I had a similar 4540 with the mother board shot. I decided to swap hard drives and now I cannot boot to either one. win 95 which both hd's have I get a message os not found. I tried to bood from boot disk and the message I get is win95 starting then theA> can't chang dir.

Go into the bios
Auto detect hard drive
Or manually type in the C.H.S

Save and exit

format drive and reinstall OS

Huh it's not mandatory to format and reinstall, it should work fine with correct C.H.S. info... just do a scandisk if you can make finally make the system boot from it to be sure there is no problem.
