A PS2 mouse is plug and play in Windows 2000 OS. When plugged into a working ps2 port, the os will detect and install it within 5-7 seconds.

Just check in Device Manager and make sure the ps2 port is working. If it isn't listed or has flags on it, then check in BIOS setup to insure the ps2 port is enabled.
