my canoscann670ou is not detected by the "found new hardware wizzard" by my computer running windows xp.other devices e.g.camera are picked up so there is no problem with the usb portany ideas

Then I guess you should state how your attemping to install and what file your using.
Note: Canon doesn't make a N670ou. You surely mean a Canoscan N670U.
