Did you check the temperature, maybe the fan does not work!

checked fan. Temperature ok.
Wicker,
I just dropped into the boards and your issue caught my attention.
It may sound a bit odd to ask, but are you using any firewall or firewall software? If you are on broadband without a firewall, it is possible someone is hijacking your system. If you are using a router (as in the case of sharing the broadband connection) between your computer and the broadband connection, this can be considered a hardware firewall. Be certain you have the latest firmware and change your password regularly. If you do have the router and a hacker has compromised it, this could be the culprit.
As to other causes of the slowdown, the temperature issue for AMD chips is important. You said your fan was working. I have troubleshot a similar situation where the fan was spinning in the wrong direction. The system was custom built that way for the customer. My point is that the temperature may be "okay" when you are checking it, but it spikes overnight and causes the problems. It bears checking into.
As a good measure, I would defrag the drive and reseat the RAM, PCI cards and cables. Try pcpitstop.com to give your system a checkup as well.
Goog luck with your issue.
