When i insert a cd in the disc drive nothing happens Do i need to add the driver? in the device manager there is an x next to the cd/dvd icon

When the x is there, right-click the drive, left-click properties and see what the error message says.

You gotta get rid of that x. Try uninstalling the drive, then reboot the machine and after reboot, check to see if the x is gone. Windows will reload the driver automatically without user intervention.

i uninstalled and re-booted but now there is an exclamation point in the cd device manager and in properties there is a code 19 problem.. I thought that meant its lost its driver?
