Optical drives never require a driver when used in Windows XP other than what the OS provides natively with built-in drivers. The XP OS provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk but it does not provide any support for playing dvd movie disks. For that task, compatible 3rd. party dvd decoding software is required (like WinDVD or PowerDVD).
