HP didn't ship this laptop with Windows XP installed on it and they do not offer but very little support for it in Windows XP.

Laptops, unlike Desktops, cannot use generic drivers... they must use a specific driver written by the laptop maker. I suggest you visit their talk forum to see if there is any solution. Most likely you're not the first one to attempt a downgrade from Vista to XP so there should be some talk about it in their forum.
