I am having a horrible time trying to find the audio drivers for XP for my new Compaq Presario CQ50-105NR laptop. I found this person's comment on a forum:
your fix…driverguide.com. setup an account and get conexant universal device driver. version 2.1.8.0. It’s from 2002. I don’t remember the exact filename but choose the one with the most downloads. Once you install this, your networking will function. Do windows update; custom- not express and select the 4 hardware updates on the left. Fixes the processor, audio, modem and touchpad.
I have searched driverguide for this file, and cannot find it. If you can tell me, PM me, or post it, or if you have drivers that will work, please let me know. I have spent a week on locating XP drivers for this laptop.
Thanks,
Lyndon

Compaq never shipped this notebook with Windows XP installed. It came with Windows Vista on it, hence Compaq/HP offers zero support for it in Windows XP.

Your best bet would be to search the HP forums and see if you can find a driver there. And please read the info on these pages.

Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. After spending all day today at this, I understand what you are saying, but it makes me pretty mad.
I've got everything running save that "Other Devices" meaning the 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' and there are two of those.
As you stated, HP is making it miserable for anyone trying to revert back to XP.
I tried installing the Universal Audio Bus, and then installing the nVidia drivers, but no luck. Then I found a download at HP, and when I tried to install that, it stated that my laptop didn't come issued with XP, and aborted. Jesus!
Then I tried downloading a version of nVidia, and trying to update driver to a 'previous 8200 driver, but I coudn't do that because I don't have NAM.
By now, it is something I want to do. And I'll appreciate anybody that can help a newb get it done. :furious:
Thanks,
Lyndon
