Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from Win95 up. Windows XP and Windows Vista both provide native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. No support for playing dvd disks or for burning dvd or cd-rw disks. For those tasks, compatible 3rd. party recording & dvd decoding software is required.
If your problem is non-detection, ie: drive is not listed in "My Computer", please read post #24 in this thread: http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=21669&page=4
It contains instructions on the delete the upper and lower filters fix
Also, there is a STICKY posted in this forum that contains a file from Microsoft and instructions that will do this registry edit automatically instead of having to do it manually.
And here's another method that will do this automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22131
(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)
Alternately, download and install the DVD fix from the Web site below.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs
After performing this registry fix, just reboot the pc. Now your drive should be visible in My Computer and work properly.

I had a similar problem with my Compaq F767NR computer where the Optiarc DVD CD RW AD-7530B stopped being recognized by the windows vista operating system. I could see the drive listed but would have a yellow exclamation flag stating that the driver could not be installed or that it was corrupt. I tried all the normal fixes such as deleting the upper and lower filters however, this did not work either. I'm a network engineer and could not find a fix for this problem but I know it's a simple one. I wound up at Best Buy just yesterday and decided to run the issue accross the "Geek Sqaud" and they told me that they have a program which goes beyond the normal boundaries of driver search engines so I gave it a shot. They took my computer and ran the program and not only does windows vista recognize the DVD drive but it also natively installed the system driver correctly. It's only been one day and I'm looking for the problem to resurface but it only cost me $30 bucks and five minutes to get back into business. So far so good!
If I have a problem they'll retry the fix as long as it's within thirty days and if I experience the problem again I'll be sure to advise. They have told me that the majority of the cases they've seen were related to people trying to migrate from WIN XP to vista. That was not my situation, I did load a digital camera driver onto my system which changed the filters configuration and eventually disrupted the native system drivers in vista thus causing the problem. If you have a Best Buy with a geek sqaud it may be worth the trip.
I hope this may be helpful to someone else esspecially if you're like me a business owner and a law enforcement officer. This problem doesn't seem to be going away as long as vista is still on the market.
Best regards and most continued success!

It would be interesting to know what this miracle program which goes beyond the normal boundaries of driver
search engines is. I've been in the business for over 20 years and I've never heard of such a program.
The only driver for Windows Vista (or XP) is the one Microsoft packaged/included with the OS.
There is no other Windows driver.
It's amazing what folks in the repair business will tell a customer in order to justify charging $40.00 for a
task that takes less than 5 minutes to fix. I guess they like robbing cops as well as regular customers, lol.
Here's the driver info for Windows XP (it's probably not much different for Vista).
These drivers all come on the Windows installation disk and are written to the hard drive during installation of the OS.
