Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from Win95 up. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. No support for playing dvd disks or for burning dvd or cd-rw disks. For those tasks, compatible 3rd. party recording & dvd decoding software is required.

USB drives are plug and play.... all that's required is a working usb port. I suggest you go into Device Manager and insure the use ports are working ok.

Not trying to be a bother, but how do you "fix" an issue where the Super Multi DVD Writer does NOT show up as a DVD/RW in WinXP? I can attach my LG external DVD writer but all WinXP thinks it can do is read. For what it's worth, I have a GSA-E60L.

Thanks,

What specific problem does that cause? Will the drive read a data or music disk? Will it burn a cd-r and dvd disk? Will it read a dvd disk? I gotta know what problem you're experiencing before I can offer advice.
