i just recently bought a vista computer. On the windows media player when ever i go to watch a movie like a dvd or downloaded dvd movies it wont play sound how can i fix this?

Are you saying the movie plays the video with no audio?

Did this machine come from the store or factory in this condition?

Does other Windows sounds work ok?

Does the machine have DVD decoding software (like WinDVD or PowerDVD) installed?

Take a look in Device Manager and see if you have any devices flagged as having a problem.... specifically in the Audio section.

Right the downloaded and dvd's i try to play in media player dont have sound but do have video. Yes all other sound functions work also other videos i play in their have sound just the dvds dont. Yes my machine came with power dvd.???

If everything is ok in Device Manager then it sounds like you have a problem in the dvd decoding software. Check PowerDVD to see if the Volume control is turned up. Also check all your Windows volume controls to see if they are enabled and volume is turned up and not muted. If it still doesn't work, then uninstall and reinstall PowerDVD.
