There is a yellow exclamation point in front of my Microsoft System Management BIOS driver. What does this mean and how do I get rid of it? I think it's impacting my sound device. Please help.

BIOS and drivers are 2 separate objects which require much different files.

Please identify the pc brand and model or if it's a retail motherboard, the brand and model. And also name the sound chipset and it's number. Is the sound working or not working on your pc?

It's a Compaq Presario. The Sound Device is Realtek AC '97 Audio. The driver details are provider Realtek Semiconductor Corp.; date; Oct. 2004, and the version is 5.10.0.5730.

As far as the Microsoft System Management BIOS driver, I'm not familiar with that and since it has an exclamation point in front, I didn't want to troubleshoot without knowing whether or not it was even necessary.

I as well don't know what a "System Management BIOS driver" is. If you mean instead, a SM BUS Management Driver that's the main chipset of your motherboard. It has nothing to do with audio/sound.

Please vist the HP/Compaq link below for driver support:

Compaq made literally dozens of Presario models, each requiring a unique driver for most on-board hardware including sound and chipset. So you will need to at least determine which Presario model you own.

That's what it says in my Device Manager screen under system devices. The motherboard (I have two listings for it) comes after something titled Microsoft System Management BIOS driver. I don't know who wrote it like that or put it there, but it's there. I'm not making it up.

Thanks for the link to Compaq. I will find out which model of Presario I have and use that information to troubleshoot my sound problem. I wasn't sure if the exclamation point before that "driver" impeded me from fixing my sound problem or not, that's why I asked.
