Removed Vista from my laptop and installed XP Pro SP3. I need a sound driver to make it fully functional again. Any help is greatly appreciated!

HP only posts drivers for the OS this machine was shipped with. Finding drivers for a non-supported OS may be difficult if not impossible. And Notebooks cannot use generic drivers like Desktops can... you must use specific drivers from the laptop maker as generic drivers will fail install. I can only suggest to look for similar models that have the same sound chipset and supported in Windows XP. This page might help:
