With Win 2000/XP there are only 2 ways of running dos,, 1st - through the DOS prompt or 2nd - by hitting F8 at system startup and selecting the 'start the DOS prompt. *** remember that with both of these operating systems not all of the DOS commands will work as some have been removed..
As NT don't like DOS, I've solved problem by installing DOS to own harddisk. They are almost free as they hide at the corners of livingroom... just mop up little. ;)
Same solution is needed when you want to play ancient TIE-fighter and X-Wing games as they need 620 of your 640 memory. XP/2000 don't give you this opportunity in DOS-window.

START
RUN type C:/windows/repair
copy AUTOEXEC.NT
RUN type C:/windows/ system 32
paste AUTOEXEC.NT in empty space
right click AUTOEXEC.NT goto PROPERTIES checked Read Only
now you won't received that warning anymore
