I am not sure I have done this right but here goes anyhow.

I recently had XP put onto my comp from Win 2000 and now I can not connect my scanner. When I try, I get a message that says:

C\windows\system 32 auto exec NT not suitable for running MS DOS & Micro Windows. The header of the window with this message says "16 bit Windows Subsystem"

What does this all mean and what do I do? Please Help, I really need my scanner and can't afford to buy another one. I managed to find a driver for the scanner (iVina 1200U) but it won't let me download that either. This whole situation is going to drive me insane.

You must copy autoexec.nt file from C:\windows\repair to C:\windows\system32 and set it as read-only :-)

Thankyou so much for your reply but now I have another problem. Am I a computer dummy? Definatly!!!! If you don't mind could you please explain to me how I go about making the the repairs that you suggested. Please, please in simple straightforeward directions that I can follow. Perhaps one day I will learn these things. Once I make these changes, then I should be able to install the scanner and download the driver? Right????

You can do that in easy way :-)

First:
Start->Run->cmd
Then type:
copy C:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt

Or you can find this file and copy it :-)
Start->Run->explorer.exe

On the left find My Computer then drive C:\ then folder Windows, then Repair
find file autoexec.nt and clik on it right mouse button and choose Copy
then go to C:\Windows but this time open folder System32 and click there
right mouse button and choose paste and thats it :-)

If you copy this file then you can install drivers for scanner :-)

Ps. sorry for my english but i hope you understand what i wrote ;-)
