i just recently bought a CD-ReWriter GCE-8526B and i opened my computer and hooked the 52x32x52x up to the wire that conexts to my 50x to my mother board...then i put it together turned on my compand tried it out...it would let me burn the cd(or it looked like it would) but when i stuck it in the 50X to c if it was working i couldn't get it to play and on my windows media player it said no cd or dvd burner has been detected.......what is wrong :( ???????? if u know what is wrong please e-mail me at noemailaddys@allowed

Download microsoft windows media format 9.0 see if it helps.

When you installed the new CD writer did you hook the cable up correctly.
The red side of the cable goes toward the power connector, did you go into bios setup and see if the bios recognizes the new device! Are the jumpers set correctly?

your problem is with the cableing and pinning on the drives. Aa per the above post... the red stripe on the cable has to go to pin #1 on both drives. When you have two devices on the same IDE cable one must be pinned as MASTER and the other as Slave,,, also the master device goes at the end of the cable and the slave on the second connection down the cable....
