Is this really a pcmcia interfaced drive or is it internal IDE? PCMCIA drives haven't been made in several years. If your drive is actually IDE interfaced, it doesn't require any drivers as the OS provides the support. Maybe it would be a good idea to state what your problem is and include some details.

There's a multi-page thread about this drive posted a few posts down from yours. You should read it:

Is the drive listed in "My Computer" and Device Manager? Does Device Manager have any flags on the drive?

All it takes to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r is Windows XP OS. Anything else will require 3rd party compatible software, ie: Nero or Easy Cd Creator and WinDVD or PowerDVD.

I doubt your issue is with software or bad drivers. A combo drive contains 2 laser lens, one for cd and one for dvd. It sounds like your cd lens has gone bad. Only way to know is have it tested by a professional shop or try another drive and see if you have the same problem. That will eliminate where the problem lies.

And you might try cleaning the lens either by using a lens cleaner disk or by manual cleaning.
