Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows OS starting with Windows 95. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. It does not provide any support for playing dvd movie disks. For that task, compatible 3rd party dvd decoding software is required.
