The "original" drivers are for Windows Vista. Compaq doesn't support this machine in Windows XP.

Am exactly in the same boat....but got further...

Here's what I got to get Windows XP up and running for Compaq SR5030. Needed a 2nd PC to download these drivers and burn'em on CD (cuz there's no floppy drive).

For Ethernet, RealTek RTL8101E (that is PCI-Express) Ethernet Driver, available on www.realtek.com.tw. Use "RealTek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC."

For Intel Chipset 82801 chipset series, downloaded from Intel.com download.

For Intel Graphic Chipset, Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family is also downloaded from Intel.com.

For modem, Conexant HSF SoftModem, both Microsoft and Conexant driver works fine for me here. My driver title is "PCI Data Fax SoftModem with SoftCP"

Manually installed the Intel 82801AA SMBus Controller (from Win XP CD).

Still working on Audio (Intel ICH7, 82801G)....

Try this link for RealTek Ethernet to get yourself up and going.

Hi, Egberts -- we're about to do the same downgrade to XP on my dad's computer. Thanks for all the great information. One question -- did you ever figure out which audio driver set from Intel works? And is everything else working well for you?

Thanks again for the great list of drivers -- I think you probably saved me (and others) a stack of time.

Hello, everyone -- Egberts sent me the solution to the audio drivers and asked me to post it here. Thanks, Egberts!

For my working audio.... I show a RealTek high def audio 10-25-2007.
5.10.0.5502 MS Win-signed driver

(as listed in Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Sound,
video and game controllers->RealTeak high def)

It came with Microsoft High Definition Audio UAAV1.0a(5013). I went to
Windows Update site for this.
