CD writers work the same in Windows XP as they do other OS's. As a matter of fact, most work better in Windows XP than they do older OS's. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. It does not provide any support for burning cd-rw or dvd disks or for playing dvd disks. For those tasks, compatible 3rd. party recording and dvd decoding software is required.

ie: Easy Cd Burner or Nero and WinDVD or PowerDVD.

Please explain what "does not work" means. Is the drive listed in My Computer and Device Manager?
