Self-Replicating Shortcuts - WinXP

Anyone ever seen or heard of a reason why Windows XP desktop shortcuts would spontaneously start copying themselves? This PC has created 30 to 40 copies of the shortcuts on at least two occasions. They can be bulk deleted, but a few days pass and then it happens again.

Any ideas out there.

are possible reasons why this can happen. I suggest you do a thorough scan of your system with a spyware/adware removal program of your choice and make sure you have good quality anti-virus software installed and updated.

i have the same problem a few days ago. i have it scan for virus etc but it did not help. what did the trick was that i changed the keyboard and the problem disappeared. see if work in your case.
