Hi have two Os's & two HD's one ME the other XP.
had some bother connecting to the www. under XP.
So downloaded as many drivers for modem(conexant soft56 Data, Fax speakerphone PCI Modem) Anyway managed to get online but i got after all the pleeps n sounds a harsh kishhheee noise all the way through the connection & it's Impossible to surf the net wi that racket going on. I disabled the speaker system(in device manager) & even disconected the speaker wire's + turned down the modem Vol all to no avail. It sounds like the noise is comeing from the M/b or the sound card /modem???.
Any ideas on this prob would be appreciated.

open control panel, double click the Phone & Modems Option icon. click the modem tab, hilite the modem listed by clicking once, click Properties, click Modem tab again, reduce speaker volume or turn to off.
now click the diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem box. this tests the modem to see if its ok.

Thanks for the feedback but as i wrote i did go to the device manager to adjust the modem volume & still with no result.
The loud noise is definatly coming from the modem so might it be the XP driver
is incompatable even though i can get on the www??.
